The Security Department of DMW/PTA is being headed by Shri Ajay Kumar, Assistant Security Commissioner, Railway Protection Force.

The Role and Duties of the Railway Protection Force , as envisaged in the RPF Act are: -

  • To protect and safeguard Railway Property, Passenger area and Passengers.
  • To remove any obstruction in the movement of Railway Property and Passengers area.
  • To do any other act conducive to better protection and security of Railway Property, Passenger area and Passengers.

The RPF also performs duties relating to passenger facilitation, ensuring passenger's safety and security, action against unauthorized hawkers, ticket-less travelers, beggars and urchins, trespassers etc.

In addition, the RPF as a Central Police Organization (CPO) has to undertake duties pertaining to movements, Melas, Agitations etc.

The objectives of the RPF are to carry on an unrelenting fight against criminals in protecting railway property, Facilitate passenger safety and security by removing all anti-social elements form trains and railway premises, Co-operate with sister departments of the Railways in improving the efficiency and the image of the Indian Railways, Act as a bridge between the Government Railway Police/Local Police and the Railway administration and Adopt all modern technology and management techniques in the pursuit of these objects.

1.

ASC/RPF

ASC/RPF shall be responsible for better protection, security and smooth movement of Railway property as well as for the efficient Administration of the Force in his jurisdiction and shall deal with all establishment matters concerning the enrolled member of force placed under his control. He shall keep in close touch with the superior officers posted in this unit and maintaining liaison and coordination between civil administration and Railway administration.

2.

Inspector

Inspector shall be responsible to protect and safeguard Railway property and to combat crime against it. He shall be responsible to do any act conductive to better protection and security of Railway property. He shall be responsible to reduce the opportunities of theft, pilferages misappropriation etc against Railway property and leakage of Railway Revenue through surprise preventive checks, keeping open or unobtrusive watch at Workshops, Stores, Depots and Yards. He shall be responsible for overall supervision of RPF staff working at RPF Post DMW/Patiala.

3.

Sub Inspector

He shall be responsible to protect and safeguard Railway property and to combat crime against it, and to do any other act conductive to better protection and security of Railway property. He shall be responsible to register and take up enquiries under the Railway Property (UP) Act 1966 apprehend the offenders and participate in subsequent legal proceedings connected therewith.

Assistant Sub Inspector

He shall be responsible to protect and safeguard Railway property and to combat crime against it, and to do any other act conductive to better protection and security of Railway property. He shall be responsible to register and take up enquiries under the Railway Property (UP) Act 1966 apprehend the offenders and participate in subsequent legal proceedings connected therewith.
