2. Responsibility:
The Electrical department is responsible for :-

  • Purchase of electricity at 66 KV from PSPCL.
  • Distribution & utilization of power supply.
  • Improving the quality of power supply.
  • Operation and maintenance of Electrical assets.
  • Operation & maintenance of air-conditioning services.
  • Energy conservation.
  • Promotion of non-conventional sources of energy.
  • Operation & maintenance of standby DG sets.
  • Operation & maintenance of telecommunication facilities.
  • Planning & execution of related works.

3. Power Supply:

·         DMW purchases electrical energy from PSPCL as single point supply. Electrical power supply, for the entire complex of workshop and colony, is received at 66 KV from 220 KV grid substation of PSPCL at Ablowal. The supply is received through a 10 Km long 66 KV single circuit overhead line. The maintenance of 66 KV overhead line is with PSPCL.

·         The electrical supply at 66 KV is stepped down to 11 KV at Main Receiving Station (MRS) at DMW Workshop through two number transformers of 6.3/8 MVA capacity and further distributed to the various load centers through 11 KV HT network of seven numbers of electrical sub stations in the workshop area and three numbers electrical sub stations in the colony area. All the ten numbers electrical sub stations are connected through HT ring main underground cable system.

·         The total sanctioned connected load of DMW at present is 25566 KW and the sanctioned contract demand is 17694 KVA. The electricity tariff of PSPCL is the single part tariff applicable for Catetory IV consumers of PSPCL.

·         The power factor of DMW power supply is maintained at the level of 1.00 (Unity) which is one of the best among the industrial sector of Punjab. Each electrical sub-station, pumping installations, street light feeder pillars have been provided with LT power capacitor banks to improve  the power factor.

·         The maintenance of the 66/11 KV switch yard at MRS including the control room is done by DMW and periodical testing of the equipments are being got done through  Sr. XEN/Protection / PSPCL /Patiala on half yearly basis.

4.      Standby Power Supply:
There are three small DG sets in colony to feed pumping installations, DMW hospital,   ORH & DMW House (one no. 125 KVA DG set at SSE/Colony Office, one no. 70 KVA at ESS-II, Colony and one no. 50 KVA at ESS-III, Colony). One DG set of 15 KVA capacity  for use of MRS have been provided, one DG set of 7.5 KVA  have been provided at Telephone Exchange.

  5.      Water Supply:
There are 10 nos electrical submersible pumps installed in separate deep bore wells i.e. two no. in Colony-I, five nos in Colony-II and three nos in Workshop. Operation & maintenance of all these pumps have been made automatic with the timers as well as with the water level controllers and the energy consumption is being monitored. The operational timings are being fixed in consultation with Civil Engg Deptt

. Maintenance and operation of Mono-block workshop sewage pumps installations (four nos) of work shop area is also with Eelctrical Deptt.

    6. Air Conditioning:
A substantial portion of the workshop area is covered by central air conditioning plants for workshops having       CNC   machines. Following shops buildings have been provided with central/package plants for air-conditioning
